Gripe of the day: Filenames. Why oh why do people name for example PDF-files that they publish on the web weird or cryptic things, or let them have random strings as filename, created by the CMS? (I’m looking at you, ASP .NET!) I’ve always been a bit of a pedantic file namer myself, and if I intend to share the document with any wider audience I often use some form of very...

Speaking of testing, this looks pretty amazing: http://www.getwindmill.com/ - Automated website testing through Python.

Note to myself: Idea for blog post, “All the various ways of clearing a float, their pros and cons”. Also why it’s a bad idea to use “.clearfix” on every element and it’s grandParent.

In addition to the developer-friendly goodness from the previous post, Sitepoint also releases this: http://www.sitepoint.com/blogs/2009/01/27/introducing-firescope-the-sitepoint-reference-tool-for-firebug/ Drool! Looks really handy, will also recommend this to my web dev students.

The sitepoint reference section has redesigned, and finally launched the Javscript section. Yay! Teh interwebz have sorely missed a central location for JS info, documentation and browser compatibility charts etc. Good stuff is at http://reference.sitepoint.com

Neato. I’ve felt for a while that a) I sometimes need to save things (thoughts, shorter stories etc) to my “lifestream” that wouldn’t really fit into a blog per se. That, and the fact that my blog never seems to get finished… Anyhow, now I have this dashboard widget to post stuff from. Sweet, I think I might use this quite a bit…

Louis CK tells it like it is. →
This is funny as hell, standup comedian Louis CK (writer for Letterman, Conan etc) talks about how short our attention spans and memory are: we are living in the most awesome of times, yet we are the dumbest and most spoiled generation ever.  I especially enjoyed the part about the guy getting pissed off about free WiFi not working on the plane: “This is bullshit, man” - Dude,...
